I decided to work on Ringo, thinking I would use him for my final designs, but I ended up changing my mind after he was finished.
I sketched out the general pose and anatomy a few times before I started to line it, remembering what I had learnt from the Blackmore piece. I lay down the base colours using the colours from other characters and mixing them with Ringo from the manga in order to get a set of colours that fit well with the others. Jojo is well known for there being no official colours, but I wanted to keep the well known selection for him.
I then lay down the shading and highlights, starting with a painting brush and duplicating the layer and changing the mode to multiply once I had finished, setting the opacity to 33% to deepen the shadows and make the overall picture a little darker.
Finally I added in the black shading in the corners, following both the manga and the other models as closely as I could. This brought it together really well and allowed me to make it look even closer to the intended style.
The last thing I did was edit the sheet with the other Steel Ball Run characters to include my version, to make sure it fit in. I think it fits in quite well, what I might do next is change the lines to be dark brown and slightly lighten the overall shading and it might fit in slightly better, but overall I think it came out really close to the style I was going for, and I think when I present the characters I make I will replicate this page style.
