Deciding subjects

First thing I did was make a fake game concept to base the designs on:

I wanted it to be an RPG where the different characters are different classes

The initial concept was that you are from a kingdom being ravaged by darkness and it is your job to find a way to bring back the light to the people there. Each character is from one of 3 kingdoms (Black forest and Trumpet flower are from the same kingdom based on German villages)

I looked a few different things to base my designs on. My ideas included cream crown Danishes, Honduran white bat, Trumpet flower, Black forest gateau, Bee, Koi fish.

I made a document of initial research on the two I had narrowed down my selection to be, the trumpet flower and the black forest gateau. I wanted to connect the designs for my characters to the background of the items they were based on.
